She is a seventeen-year-old high school senior from Orondo, Washington. It was last seen leaving Wenatchee Academy of Hair Design after 3:00 p.m. on February 9th, 2010. The Wenatchee High School student was a dance team member has worked as a model while studying cosmetology. When MacKenzie did not arrive home by curfew, her father has tried to contact her, only to find that all of his calls went straight to voicemail.
The incident has reported to the Chelan County Sheriff’s office, and a search began with the help of a helicopter to explore the area where her father’s car has found, abandoned. Additionally, search warrants have issued for the teen’s phone records and social media accounts, and the FBI has called into the investigation. To this day, MacKenzie’s disappearance remains a mystery.

In the afternoon of February 13th, MacKenzie’s body has discovered near the river, approximately twenty miles away from Wenatchee. She has found in her clothing. However, her feet have submerged in the water. Interestingly, just fifty yards away from where her body has found rested a vacant house for sale.
The autopsy results revealed that MacKenzie’s death has caused by strangulation and stab wounds to her neck, as well as head trauma. After her death, the murderer attempted to sever one of her arms, leaving a knife embedded in her shoulder. Fortunately, there was no proof that MacKenzie had sexually assaulted. On February 25th, an estimated 1,800 people attended her memorial service.

When the body of MacKenzie Cowell has discovered, a multi-agency police group has formed to lead the investigation – the MacKenzie Cowell (Wikipedia) Task Force. This team of law enforcement agents from nearby cities and counties has determined to get to the bottom of the dark crime case, and their efforts made it the largest multi-agency investigation in the area since the attempted serial bombing of the late nineties. With over eight hundred people interviewed by police, it was an exhaustive process that demanded countless hours of dedication and determination from all involved.
MacKenzie’s boyfriend Joaquin Villasano quickly came under suspicion when she went missing, as did her mother’s boyfriend Joey Fisher. Villasano has asked if he knew the whereabouts of MacKenzie and alleged had an argument with her before her disappearance. However, both Villasano and Fisher were completely cleared by investigators, with Villasano failing a polygraph when asked about MacKenzie’s whereabouts.
Following a comprehensive investigation, Christopher Wilson, a former classmate of MacKenzie’s at beauty school, has incriminated by law enforcement. People came forth stating his unhealthy fascination with death and serial killers, so the police arrested him when DNA evidence linked him to the crime scene. To make matters worse, they found MacKenzie’s blood in his abode. Wilson is still incarcerated and will be able to apply for parole in 2023.
